Euan Hunter

Present

Euan a ceramicist based in Scotland. I make work by hand, and find most of my inspiration somewhere between the studio and the coast.

Euan studied ceramics at Grays School of Art, where I developed a practice rooted in material honesty and careful making. As a ceramicist, Euan believes that beauty lies in the contrast between the organic forms of nature, with its rough and unpredictable textures that give life to every landscape. The way elements come together to create shapes, shadows and contrasting textures is an endless source of inspiration for him. He is fascinated by the way that nature can be both beautiful and harsh, soothing and jarring, subtle and bold – often at the same time. In his work, he seeks to capture the essence of these contrasts, illuminating the tension between smooth and rough, sharp and soft, light and shadow. By using clay as his medium, he aims to create both functional and sculptural pieces that blur the boundaries between art and everyday life, awakening a deeper connection to the natural world and its delicate balance between order and chaos.

Euan now work as technician & Ceramics teacher running the studio and teaching people at all stages of their practice. I find the teaching side genuinely rewarding - watching someone develop a feel for clay is one of those things that doesn't get old. Alongside that, I continue to develop my own collections, while experimenting within my own practice

This site is home to that work. If something resonates, I'd love to hear from you.

Work & Collections

Euan works in small runs - each piece thrown by hand and finished at its own pace. Nothing is exactly repeated. What you'll find here is my current work.

Tea Set

This Teapot and set of 4 tea bowls are inspired by the texture of mountain rocks. The 4 tea owls have an intentionally small foot paired with a rounded bottom to encourage you to be present while drinking tea. This is to encourage users to take a break from their day and focus on nothing while having tea.
The body is dark stoneware, left largely unglazed so the texture does the work. I carved the surface of each cup by hand. the same rhythm of marks across all four, though no two came out quite the same. The texture again is inspired by the texture of mountain rocks. The glaze sits only at the rim, pooling slightly where it meets the raw clay . The balance between the rough textured clay and the smooth glazed surface is something I like to play with in my work.
This is a functional set, made to be used. The pieces will develop their own character over time, which is part of the point.

Scottish Origins Sake Vessel

Inspired by the Scottish mountains, these rock Decanters bring a touch of ruggedness and nature to your drinking experience.

Vase

A collection of hand-thrown ceramic vessels exploring form, texture, and restraint. These large-scale pieces combine smooth matte finishes with finely carved detailing around the rim, creating a balance between precision and organic simplicity.
Photographed within a natural landscape, the work reflects an ongoing dialogue between contemporary craft and the quiet rhythms of the environment.
